Las Vegas Market, the most comprehensive furniture, home decor and gift market in the western US, hired Launch to conduct user research and a UX audit which led to our redesign of www.lasvegasmarket.com.
We conducted extensive research which included both the physical market and the LVM website. The primary goals for the user research was to map the decision journey for attending the market, map the appropriate channels to the journey, learn the buyer’s goals for the website and test assumptions about the user personas.
As part of our research into the physical market, we conducted 4 one-on-one interviews with usability testing of the website, 2 focus groups, and 2 shopalongs. Through this research, we determined:
Users primarily used the site for logistical information;
The site did not influence market attendees;
Market attendees were unaware/did not make use of key features of site, including filtering or the product catalogue;
The site navigation needed to be reorganized.
In conducting the UX audit, we had several suggestions for improving the website which included:
- Adding faceted search
- Increasing awareness of the product catalogues and exhibitor directory
- Improving exhibitor pages to add content valuable to the user
- Changing the site navigation
- Integrating the site with the LVM mobile app
- Adding engaging and instructional content
In addition to site recommendations, we also included strategies to help attendees navigate the physical market (signage, kiosks, and mobile/tablet recommendations) and to improve the overall experience at the market.
